Labor Day

Statement

Date: Sept. 3, 2012

Labor Day is a day in which we pay tribute to the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. In Congress, I am working to help improve the conditions for job creators to add more employees to our labor force. I am also working to ensure that is there is open competition for federal contracts and to reduce the overreaching interference of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in the relationships between employees and their employers. Recent studies have found that federally mandated Project Labor Agreements (PLAs) can drive up the cost of construction projects as much as 18%. PLAs waste taxpayer dollars and and cause chilling effects on investments in construction projects; these are the reasons why I am an original cosponsor of H.R. 735, the Government Neutrality in Contracting Act. This bill would nullify President Obama's executive order to remove the prohibition on government-mandated PLAs.
